Saudi Arabia’s AMAALA, the developer of the PIF-led 4,155km2 ultra-luxury tourism destination, and professional services consultancy, WSP Middle East, are collaborating to intensify talks surrounding greater female representation in the engineering sector as well as STEM.
On the occasion of International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), which falls on 23 June every year, AMAALA and WSP Middle East will reflect on the progress being made to create more diverse and inclusive working environments for KSA youth in engineering fields.
Commenting on the move, Ahmed Darwish, Chief Administrative Officer at AMAALA, said: “Vision 2030 has provided a laser focus on the future of our young people, and at AMAALA we set out from the beginning to embrace and nurture talent from across the Kingdom. We want AMAALA to be a platform that creates a legacy for future generations providing opportunities for fresh graduates and young people to gain experience and a career across all sectors.
Spotlighting women in engineering is a globally important topic and one that we support wholeheartedly to encourage more women to be inspired by science and technology and see a future from STEM education.”
Meanwhile, Shona Wood, Gender Balance Steering Committee Representative and Head of Integrated Project Delivery and Architecture at WSP Middle East said: “We are witnessing a transformational shift in our industry as more and more females discover the rewards of pursuing a career in engineering.
However, we all have a part to play in nurturing the development and pathways of future engineers; the key to this will be ensuring all industry professionals – both male and female – unite to empower our female youth by being bold allies and ensuring their voices are heard as they navigate the road to a more diverse future.”
In support of their efforts, AMAALA and WSP Middle East will release a podcast episode titled ‘Engineering role models for a more diverse future’, which aims to promote the influential role that mentors can play in inspiring the youth to become the Kingdom’s future changemakers to drive economic transformation.
Earlier this month, AMAALA and WSP Middle East also collaborated on the occasion of the tenth annual Global Wellness Day (GWD) to promote the need for a renewed focus in the way organisations approach mental health, with an emphasis on improving workplace wellness and empowering greater conversation around holistic wellbeing.
