Saudi Arabia announces 2-day public holiday

The holiday is celebrated to commemorate the country’s founding in 1727 by Imam Mohammed Bin Saud

The Saudi Gazette reported that on the occasion of Saudi Arabia’s Founding Day celebrations, public sector employees will be granted a two-day holiday, taking place on February 22nd and 23rd.

February 22 will be an official holiday on account of Founding Day celebrations in the kingdom, for all private, public and non-profit sectors.

Saudi Arabia’s Founding Day is also a holiday for those included in the “provisions of the executive regulations for human resources in the civil service,” the report said, adding that this is in accordance with Article 128 of the same regulations.

This year marks the second celebration of Founding Day, which was declared a national holiday in 2022 following a royal decree issued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.

The holiday is celebrated to commemorate the country’s founding in 1727 by Imam Mohammed Bin Saud and to honour the deep historical roots of Saudi Arabia.
