Saudi Arabia has won the bid to host the 2029 Asian Winter Games, making the kingdom the first nation in western Asia to host the games, which will see participation from over 32 countries.
The games will take place at the Trojena resort, which will be located at Saudi’s highest mountain range, and is part of its $500 billion NEOM smart city project.

The decision was made after Prince Abdulaziz, who is also the President of SOPC, headed a delegation to the General Assembly meeting of OCA in Cambodia.
“With the unlimited support by the Saudi leadership and the Crown Prince to the sports sector, we are proud to announce we have won the bid to host AWG Trojena 2029 as the first country in western Asia, which will continue to place the kingdom as one of the leading countries in sport,” Prince Abdulaziz said in a tweet.
Saudi Arabia approached the Olympic Council of Asia in August. After submitting a letter of interest for the Asian Winter Games, a decision was taken by the council in Cambodia.
