The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) has inaugurated a school project in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, with $30mn of funding, as part of its efforts to support development projects in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, to construct 30 public schools in various regions of the country, with more than 50,000 beneficiaries annually.
The opening ceremony was attended by Dr Saud Al-Shammari, director of Asia operations at SFD; deputy prime minister of Kyrgyzstan Edil Baisalov; a number of officials, and representatives of the Saudi Embassy in the Kyrgyzstan.
On the other hand, the fund signed a bilateral agreement to postpone the debt owed to the development projects funded by the authority in Kyrgyzstan, with Kyrgyz finance minister Almaz Baketayev.
SFD supports sustainable development in developing countries
Since its inception, the kingdom has been supporting sustainable development in various developing countries in world, through the development fund.
Until mid-2021 and since its establishment in 1975, SFD has contributed to financing 694 projects and development programs to support 84 developing countries in many vital sectors, including social services, infrastructure, transportation, communications, energy, agriculture and mining.
